Bakken OIL…VIP pls read…

Many of us have known about the Bakken Oil fields for years…There are significant reservoirs of oil in the Bakken shale. Oil was first discovered in the Bakken in 1951, but efforts to extract it have historically met with difficulties. An April 2008 USGS report estimated the amount of technically recoverable oil in the Bakken Formation at 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels, with a mean of 3.65 billion. The state of North Dakota also released a report that month which estimated that there are 2.1 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil in the Bakken.

The greatest Bakken oil production comes from Elm Coulee Oil Field, Richland County, Montana, where production began in 2000 and is expected to ultimately total 270 million barrels. In 2007, production from Elm Coulee averaged 53,000 barrels per day more than the entire state of Montana a few years earlier.
New interest developed in 2007 when EOG Resources out of Houston, Texas reported that a single well it had drilled into an oil-rich layer of shale below Parshall, North Dakota was anticipated to produce 700,000 barrels of oil. This, combined with other factors, including an oil-drilling tax break enacted by the state of North Dakota in 2007, shifted attention in the Bakken from Montana to the North Dakota side. The number of wells drilled in the North Dakota Bakken jumped from 300 in 2006 to 457 in 2007. Those same sources show oil production in the North Dakota Bakken increasing 229%, from 2.2 million barrels (350,000 m3) in 2006 to 7.4 million barrels (1,180,000 m3) in 2007.

I used to Have a Board on MSNBC about Oil and energy…I come from the mineral state of WY. where there is also an abundance of coal, natural gas, oil and many other minerals…The Government never wanted you to know haw much oil we have here at home…Yes it is shale oil, but the processing has become much improved and we CAN become energy independent…When you heard the “Drill Baby Drill” campaign we weren’t kidding….I hope the below sheds some light and opens eyes to just how many issue are at stake as we speak…

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska ‘s Prudhoe

Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on
foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at
503 billion barrels.. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable… at
$107 a barrel, we’re looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3
trillion.

formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred
to as the ‘Bakken.’ And it stretches from Northern Montana, through
North Dakota and into Canada . For years, U. S. oil exploration has
been considered a dead end. Even the ‘Big Oil’ companies gave up
searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent
technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken’s massive
reserves…. and we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And
because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of b arrels will cost
Americans just $16 PER BARREL!
